Think Big and Small
We people are always looking for reasons to not do things, excuses. That includes me, even though I like to believe differently.I am someone who has a lot of entrepreneurial DNA, even when I was way younger I was trying to make some money off.... yea off what exactly... I was selling those paper coasters, ya know, folding paper, making some cuts in it and when you unfolded it it had such a beautiful pattern? Yeah well, I was selling that. Or when I had build some sort of a domino day, I was asking entrance fee for people to attend it or I was doing bob a job's in the neighbourhood. I even looked for ways to start some sort of a car wash.
Long story short, I was always looking for ways to provide value. Over the years, that has never really changed. But what I have noticed by looking back, is that very often I didn't actually execute on it or that I started way too big. I have been throwing bullshit up to not do stuff, same with school, I always found a reason to not having to study. Oh lets make a cup of tea, oh I am pretty hungry, oh it is already pretty late or the most common one: oh I will do it tomorrow. But there have also been moments where I was telling myself that I couldn't do things, I even talk about it in a blog: " I would love to collaborate with people, start projects…. Right now that feels kinda out of my reach". I said to myself that I didn't have the skills to do it or not the resources, whether that was money.. reach... whatever.
The thing is, it is cool to have ideas, but if you don't execute on them... they are worthless. So nowadays, I try to be more aware of why I am not executing on things. Rather than just saying that I can't or that I don't have the resources, I look for ways to still do it but maybe on a smaller scale. Ninja didn't start streaming with all the collaborations and all the other stuff, he just started small and did that for years. Coca Cola didn't start with hundreds of brands, they started with one soft drink. The moral of the story is that you shouldn't only think big, because it is going to slow you down and think that you are never going to be able to do it and thus you are never really starting. So it is important to also think small, if you have an idea, ask yourself what can you do today to get closer to that big goal. What can you do this week, this month, this year, the coming 5 years, to get closer and closer to achieving your dreams?
