Stopped multitasking
In my last blog I talked about not having the fire in me that I used to have, feeling stressed out, which I pointed out as well may have been caused by not taking enough quality breaks. A day off, was not an actual day off but more a day of not streaming but creating other forms of content.Since then I have been trying to choose more for myself. Do things that I enjoy. Eliminate things that brought more bad to me than good, for example reducing the amount of negative people around you.
In my last blog I also talked about prioritization and it was cool to see some of you picking up on that and applying it to their own life. But there is another aspect of prioritization that I didn’t talk about, it’s not only narrowing down to what actually matters to you and what you can do now to make everything else easier or unnecessary (concept of the book called “the ONE thing”). But also by focussing on one thing at hand. I used to reply to every single message as soon as it came in, whether I was streaming, playing, editing... it didn’t matter, I answered. That on itself doesn’t only make you a slave of it, but more importantly it takes away focus of what you were initially doing. Which causes you to do it less efficiently, less effectively, thus it will take more time but it also brings stress with it.
So lately I have been working on that and so far experiences are great, getting more done, more calmness in my head, which allows me to see things more clear, seeing what is important to me and what I actually want and can do, rather than what I should be doing. This has caused me to be more relaxed, focussed and returned the fire within.
The past week I have been playing lots of competitive Fortnite, despite some of the negativity of people. But that is so much easier to zone out if you are doing what you want to do, than when you do what you thought you should be doing. I just love the competitiveness of the game, there is such an adrenaline rush when you win a fight or when you are in late-game with so many people and there is such a chaos, yet you have to try to keep your calm and make the best decisions, it has lots of similarities to poker. There is some luck involved, with the RNG for example (what guns you get, where the zone goes), there are set-ups just as in poker.. you run into someone and then a third party appears.. but nonetheless, the best players rise up each and every time in the long run. There is one difference though, things are never completely out of your control. You may always still be able to clutch up, whereas if you are all-in in poker, there is nothing you can do. You see the progress you make in Fortnite, the growth, way more than in poker.
Last week I qualified for the $500K Fortnite World Cup Warm-Up, by reaching a certain amount of ranking/points in competitive. Yesterday we finished in the top 1500 of the semi-finals to qualify for the Finals today. Top 500 gets paid, min payout is $300. The thrill is insane, it has fueled my fire. It has shifted my mindset in poker, I am excited to play poker again, just to find that competitiveness. Even though we are on a downswing, I am ready to fight, almost to move up even, just for the thrill of competition. My fire is back.
